The end of the flesh ...
what does it mean ?
Jesus with the help of Buddha and Tolstoy make it clear ....
There is the outer self and the inner self ...
External and Internal
The outer/worldly-animal like and the inner/Godlike
COME OUT OF THE WORLD
Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you... If you give place to the love of the world, the love of God cannot dwell in you; anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. -1John2:15
Leo Tolstoy - Kingdom of God
Life according to Christ's teaching consists of nothing but this setting free of the Son of God, existing in every man, from the animal, and in bringing him closer to the Father.
The whole historic existence of mankind is nothing else than the gradual transition from the personal, animal conception of life to the social conception of life, and from the social conception of life to the divine conception of life.
The Christian doctrine restores to man his original consciousness of self, not the animal self, but the godlike self, the spark of divinity, as the son of God, like unto the Father, but clothed in human form.
These three views of life are as follows:
First, embracing the individual, or the animal view of life; second, embracing the society, or the pagan view of life; third, embracing the whole world, or the divine view of life
Christ is teaching men who live in and move in a animal life, and whose impulses are of an animal nature. And to this animal impulse Christ, adds another force by communicating to man a sense of the divine perfection, guiding the current of life between these two forces.
Man's life is controlled by 2 indestructible forces: his animal nature and his consciousness of a son/daughter relationship to God.
our goal is to stop clinging to what is temporary and conquer the animal by mastering the senses. When we master the senses we are no longer slave to passions, desires, egos and materialism. Then we are at Peace.
Buddha XII-1617
There is self and there is truth.
Where self is, truth is not.
Where truth is, self is not
Self is the yearning for pleasures, lusts and vanity.
Truth is the correct comprehension of things;
Thus spake Buddha, the teacher of Truth, and Jesus, the manifested Christ, declared that "No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon."
Upon the battlefield of the human soul two masters are ever contending for the crown of supremacy, for the kingship and dominion of the heart; the master of self, called also the "Prince of this world," and the master of Truth, called also the Father God. The master self is that rebellious one whose weapons are passion, pride, avarice, vanity, self-will, implements of darkness; the master Truth is that meek and lowly one whose weapons are gentleness, patience, purity, sacrifice, humility, love, instruments of Light.
The truth is the immortal part of the mind. Buddha II-10
Learn to distinguish between Self and Truth....
Self is the cause of selfishness and the source of evil.
Truth cleaves to no self; it is universal and leads to justice and righteousness
The END of worldly pleasures and desires ---> the END of the SELF
crucify the self = Salvation
Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you .... If you give place to the love of the world, the love of God cannot dwell in you; .... anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. --1John2:15

Buddha:
What is the SELF which perceives the actions of the 5 ROOTS of Mind?
Touch,smell,taste, sight and hearing
Your soul is NOT the body; it is not the eye, ear, nose, tongue, nor is it they mind.
The I is the one who feels the touch, the see in the eye, the thinker in the mind, the smeller in the nose.
The I is thy soul.
The Bible doesn’t say battle your flesh, but crucify your flesh.
Romans 13:14 “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” Galatians 5:24-25 “And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts
